The Japandroids are a two piece band out of Vancouver, Ontario. Their last album Celebration Rock was one of my favorite albums of last year, and one of the best rock albums of the last decade. I have a feeling in ten years, when I'm nostalgically looking back at about my late 20's, the soundtrack to my collective memories will probably be this song.
Frog Fractions is a flash game made by Jim Crawford that you can play in your browser by going to http://twinbeardstudios.com/frog-fractions.
At first glance Frog Fractions appears to be a game much in the vein of the educational software you probably played in middle school. You start the game as a frog, and the goal of the game is to eat insects and collect apples. Every time you eat an insect a fraction shows up, thus the title. Don't worry there is no actual math involved, it's just how they keep score. Between rounds you are able to upgrade your frog, with things like auto-targeting and a "sticky tongue" which allows you to eat multiple insects at once.
Well all I can really say is that you need to play this game until you get the dragon upgrade, and then you need to go down into the water. What happens next is one of the great mindfucks I've ever had playing a video game. In a year that has been chalk full of big budget blockbusters with little originality, it's a game like Frog Fractions that excites me about the future of video games. While the Walking Dead was probably my favorite game of last year, Frog Fractions is certainly the most surprising and original game I've played in years..
I love Dave Grohl, and so should you. In fact, I gave very serious consideration to making a blog dedicated to Mr Grohl's awesomeness, but unsurprisingly there are multiple places on the internet that fills that need. Dave Grohl loves Prince, because Prince is a badass. Here is a story about Dave getting to jam with Prince.
Chills. One of the most distinctive voices of pop music over the past decade. Also, Danger Mouse can do no wrong in my book.
I hope everyone had a fantastic New Year's Eve and I wish you all the best in 2013.
-Now take it away James!
There are better songs out there, but this one is my favorite. Never gets old.
